Carock- Wizrobe King

So this is yet another concept art for my Zelda game on the Sluggy RPG boards, which is, in fact, still alive after all these years.

I want to take some commissions this summer and was thinking of using this as one of my main example pieces (I need advice on taking commissions! Any help?)

I feel that it's... kinda sloppy. Painting with actual paint is a lot easier in certain ways than digital painting. I think the overall effect of the piece is pretty much what I was going for but a lot of the details are sorta iffy. The shading on the robes feels too smooth and I'm not quite sure how to get the effect that I want. I suppose I just need some practice... This is sort of a mix of the old shading style I used on some of the earlier Zelda pictures (playing with "darkness" and semi-transparent layers) and more traditional painting techniques.

The color completely takes precedence over the linework. I think I might try to do a different version of this that emphasizes the line more.

Also, I could use some advice on the scythe. How do you paint a long, flat sheet of polished metal with multiple light sources but with no detail to reflect? Morover, I have a lot of problems with making metal not look plasticy.
